Why@Work is a 90-mintute presentation led by Stephen Shedletzky. It covers the following three topics:

Start With Why
Any person or organization can explain what they do, some can explain how they are different or better, but very few can clearly articulate why. WHY is not about money or profit — those are results. WHY is the thing that inspires us and inspires those around us. 

Examples like Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Wright Brothers prove that great leaders think, act, and communicate in the exact same way — and it’s the complete opposite of what everyone else does. The Golden Circle is a framework upon which organizations can be built, movements can be lead and people can be inspired. And it all starts with WHY. 

Leaders Eat Last
As simple as the Why concept is to understand, one of the biggest challenges a team or organization will face is clearly articulating its purpose, cause or belief — it’s Why. While it may be felt, it can be difficult to put into words. Without a clear articulation of the Why it can be difficult put into action and nearly impossible to scale. Finding the words for our Why is the first step in being able to effectively communicate it. 

We’ve learned that the optimal way to deepen individual awareness and appreciation of the human attributes that inspire a unique culture is through sharing stories that exemplify when the organization is at its best. In this highly facilitated workshop participants write a draft Why statement for the organization and relate it to the organization’s values and guiding principles.

How Great Teams & Organizations Pull Together
Some organizations have cultures where their people are able to trust each other so deeply that they would literally put their lives on the line for each other. Other cultures, no matter what incentives are offered, are doomed to infighting, fragmentation and failure. Why?

This keynote draws on Simon Sinek’s two books, Start With Why and Leaders Eat Last. Understand the reason simply knowing or believing the Why is not enough. Once people are united by a common cause, there must be a strong culture that keeps them together. The result is a positive impact for everyone involved. The result is deeply loyal colleagues who will stop at nothing to advance their vision and their organization’s interests.

After the presentation, there will be a Q&A session which will be followed by networking reception.

Leadership + Start With Why Facilitator

Stephen supports leaders to create environments where their people feel inspired to go to work, feel safe and valued while they are there, and return home at the end of each day fulfilled by the work they do. In his engaging and dynamic style, Stephen speaks, leads workshops and coaches leaders and organizations to discover, articulate and live their Why.

We have a crisis of leadership. The vast majority of people all over the world do not love the work they do. When we do not feel cared for, we are all the more likely not to care for others.

By 2025, 75% of the workforce will be millennials – a generation that is grossly misunderstood and misled. As a millennial, Stephen shares what he has learned and experienced to help leaders of millennials and millennials themselves come together to discuss the future of the workforce, challenge assumptions and empathize with one another.

As Head of Engagement with Simon Sinek’s team at Start With Why, Stephen not only shares the message to inspire others, he plays a key internal role leading culture, product development, and communication initiatives to ensure the Start With Why team brings the Why to life from the inside out. He also co-hosts and co-produces the Start With Why Podcast, downloaded in over 180 countries.

Stephen graduated from the Richard Ivey School of Business with an HBA, focusing on leadership, communication and strategy. He has received leadership and coaching training from the Coaches Training Institute. Stephen travels all over the world and has worked with clients in industries ranging from education, aerospace, banking, healthcare, consumer products, hospitality, government and real estate. Stephen lives in Toronto, Canada with his wife and daughter.
