A Refined Workplace Designed for Growth
When Gulla CPA set out to expand into a new headquarters, the goal went far beyond gaining additional square footage. The firm envisioned a space that would embody its evolving brand, support long-term growth, and create a memorable first impression for both clients and employees. By transitioning from a partial floor to an entire level in their Troy, Michigan building, Gulla CPA seized the opportunity for a full-scale renovation, transforming the space into a modern, welcoming workplace that reflects their refreshed identity and forward-looking vision.
At over 12,000 square feet, the new headquarters was designed to support a team of 30 employees today, with flexibility to grow to nearly 100 in the future. From the beginning, collaboration between project partners was essential. NBS worked closely with Thomas Duke, who served as both landlord and architectural partner, to ensure the furniture, finishes, and layout would align with the building’s architectural design.
“The NBS team did a great job coordinating with our design and construction crew to make the project run smoothly,” shared Lauren Pierce, Interior Designer at Thomas Duke. “I appreciate that the NBS designers tailored their furniture design to complement our architectural finishes and design intent to create the perfect environment for our client.”
The resulting space balances sophistication with functionality. Visitors are greeted by an impressive lounge offering soft seating and a relaxed atmosphere, setting the tone for a positive client experience.
The floor plan separates leadership and collaborative spaces while maintaining a sense of openness. Private offices, conference rooms, and a café anchor one side of the floor, while the opposite side features workstations equipped with height-adjustable desks, ergonomic seating, and privacy screens to support focused work. Additional huddle rooms and conference spaces with overflow lounge seating encourage collaboration without sacrificing comfort.
Beyond aesthetics, the project prioritized culture, wellbeing, and talent attraction. The space has become a standout within the building and now serves as one of Thomas Duke’s showcase suites for prospective tenants, a testament to the strength of the partnership and seamless execution.
The success of the Troy headquarters has led Gulla CPA to reengage NBS for additional locations in Texas and Florida, reinforcing the trust built throughout the project and positioning the space as a scalable model for future growth.
“Managing multiple projects across three states requires a high level of communication, accountability, and strong teamwork, and the NBS team delivered on all fronts,” explained Nawras Berekdar, COO of Gulla CPA. “The team’s ability to align multiple groups and execute a great, functional workspace exactly as planned, without leaving us wondering at any point, is something we truly appreciate.”
