Video Wall Brings Arab American Experience to Life
Visitors to the Arab American National Museum (AANM) can now explore the Arab American experience via a stunning full-HD video wall. The interactive video exhibit seamlessly integrates advanced AV technology for an immersive visitor experience. Our NBS Audiovisual and Construction teams collaborated to design and custom build a solution to realize their vision.
AANM is a project of ACCESS (Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services), a Dearborn nonprofit serving the Arab American community in metro Detroit and beyond. As the largest Arab American community nonprofit in the U.S., they provide a wide range of social, economic, health, and educational services to assist the Arab immigrant community. ACCESS approached NBS for this project based on our prior work with the organization and our expertise in audiovisual and construction integration.
The museum welcomes more than 30,000 visitors each year, including many school groups, to learn about Arab culture and the Arab American diaspora in the United States. ACCESS wanted to express their brand and messaging in a unique and impactful way. To do so, they knew they had to replace an older analog light-up map with a new digital experience that could offer future flexibility to update content. NBS Audiovisual Solutions recognized that a video wall was the ideal choice because it can be customized to any size or shape, creating an eye-catching display that captures visitors’ attention. The new digital exhibit creates a much more immersive experience; visitors can play a video, explore interactive maps, and engage with other content, which can be changed at any time. The content conveys how the current borders of the Arab world came about, highlights the religious diversity in the region, and shows past and current demographics of Arab populations in the United States.
The video wall is a full 217” diagonal display, installed in front of large two-story windows. The wall comprises several individual Planar HD LED displays, which have minimal bezels for nearly seamless imagery. Visitors interact with the display via a 27” Elo touch display kiosk, installed on the second floor. The NBS Construction Solutions team built a custom frame to house the video wall and mount it in front of the windows, including channels for wiring and other components. They also built a new custom surround to integrate the interactive kiosk.
The installation was completed with minimal disruption to museum operations. The ACCESS team shared, “We felt working with NBS was simple and professional. Museum personnel were involved only as needed, with a positive outcome.”
The resulting exhibit has been positively received and creates the “wow” factor that ACCESS was looking for. ACCESS had a clear vision in mind for an immersive experience to engage and educate a 21st-century audience. With NBS’s experience, expertise, and creative team, we were able to bring that vision to life.
