A World-Class Boardroom for an Automotive Accessory Leader
The new executive boardroom for RealTruck isn’t just visually impressive—it’s a high-performance space for collaboration and decision-making. The room seamlessly combines architectural elements, tailored furnishings and intuitive technology. The thoughtful design elements were chosen to improve acoustics, AV performance, and meeting productivity. NBS’s construction, flooring, furniture and audiovisual divisions came together to deliver a unified solution on a very tight timeline.
RealTruck reached out to NBS after a recommendation from another client. Their corporate boardroom wasn’t working and their leadership team was frustrated with an inefficient layout and lack of functionality. The room was long and narrow, with a low ceiling, unusable space at the back, outdated non-user-friendly technology, and lots of hard surfaces that created poor acoustics. While the company originally requested technology upgrades only, it was quickly apparent to NBS that a holistic approach was needed to give them the results they wanted.
The first step was constructing a new wall and door, dividing the space and creating a casual breakout and hospitality area beside the boardroom. Then, we raised and recentered the ceiling sofit and added acoustical panels and lighting to make both a visual statement and improve performance. Since acoustics were a big driver for the project, we incorporated soft surfaces and multiple solutions to absorb sound including Zintra wall panels, BuzziSpace planters, and sound masking outside the room to block workplace noise and ensure privacy during meetings. These elements working together contribute to a better meeting experience for both those in the room and joining remotely.
A striking custom-built conference table from CCN is the focal point for the room. The wedge shape ensures good sightlines for all participants. We reused their existing conference chairs and added comfortable overflow seating with tablet arms for greater flexibility. The furnishings sit on top of new carpet that adds warmth and acoustical properties to the room.
Technology is integrated throughout the room, with microphones and speakers embedded in the ceiling and auto-tracking cameras for presentations and videoconferencing. Two large displays hang on the new wall, and a side display can mirror one of the main displays or be used for digital signage. A touch panel on the table operates the Microsoft Teams meeting system and makes it simple for users to start a meeting and present content.
NBS project management, installation coordination and streamlined communication between NBS divisions were key to the success. The sleek new space is optimized to facilitate productive meetings and collaboration. The project was delivered on a very aggressive budget and timeline to meet a deadline for an important board meeting. NBS’s unique ability to deliver construction, furniture and technology solutions enabled the client to work with one-point of contact, making the process go faster and smoother.
“Everyone was very impressed by the new boardroom, and the technology seemed to work flawlessly,” shared RealTruck’s Chief Growth Officer. Glenn Geisendorfer, VP of Brand Design, added, “It was a near-impossible timeline, and with so much complexity, it appeared (at least to our guests) effortless and even pleasant.”
