NBS Rudolph to the Rescue: Spreading Holiday Cheer to Our Local Communities

For many of us, the holiday season means giving back, enjoying a variety of fun winter activities, and spending quality time with friends, family, and co-workers. NBS’s favorite holiday tradition? Rudolph to the Rescue – an initiative started years ago that provides financial assistance to local families and organizations during the holidays. NBS allocates $4,000 to our largest team in Metro Detroit and $2,000 to each of our branch locations, allowing each team to donate to a cause of their choice. While NBS supports and donates to causes throughout the year, Rudolph to the Rescue is a special time to get the team’s input on where funds should go to make the most impact. This initiative often goes beyond donations from the company, as individual team members also have the opportunity to give back by donating money, items, or their time in various ways. This year, each of our teams chose families and organizations that mean the most to them.

Here’s how each of our teams decided to give back this year…

Metro Detroit Team

NBS Troy Rudolph to the Rescue

For the past few years, our Metro Detroit team has supported our strategic partner, Contract Source Group, with their Toys for Tots Stuff-the-Trailer campaign to brighten the holidays for less fortunate children in our community. Throughout the month of December, team members had the opportunity to bring in toys to fill up our donation boxes. While many of our team members generously donated toys on their own, NBS also shopped for another $1,500 worth of toys to provide even more gifts for children this holiday season. As our family culture brings us together to support one another, $500 was donated to a GoFundMe account to support the son of a former NBS team member who tragically passed away recently.

NBS also donated $2,000 to New City Kids Detroit, an after-school program for children that creates a community of spiritual, leadership, academic, and musical development. This will afford New City Kids the opportunity to invest more in their youth programming, including teen staff, college tours, their summer camp program, and scholarship funds.

I always look forward to the holidays and being able to participate in whatever our team chooses to do for Rudolph to the Rescue,” said Jennifer Ramon, Human Resources Administrator at NBS. “Whether there’s a group activity or we’re each doing our own shopping, it’s heartwarming to see our team members coming together to give back to our local communities. I am so grateful to NBS for encouraging and supporting this initiative.”

Toledo TeamNBS Toledo Rudolph to the Rescue

Our Toledo team had a great time shopping together for $1,750 worth of gifts to donate to Lucas County Children Services. Lucas County Children Services works with families, service providers, and community members to coordinate community-based services resulting in safe, stable, and permanent families for children. The other $250 of the Toledo team’s funds was donated to the Fraternal Order of Police for their Shop with a Cop program, which provides underprivileged children in the Toledo area with gifts, while allowing them to form a special bond with local law enforcement officers.

“Each year for Rudolph to the Rescue, our Toledo team gets together for a good cause, and we have such a good time while we’re at it,” said Charity Hogrefe, Vice President of Toledo & Creative Solutions at NBS. “It is such a positive and rewarding experience to see the smiles on my team members’ faces while they are shopping, and it means so much that we can help to bring joy to the children of our community during the holidays. It’s absolutely, hands down, my favorite workday of the year!”

Great Lakes Bay Region TeamNBS Great Lakes Bay Region 2022

Our team in Bay City decided to split up their Rudolph to the Rescue funds to support two local families in need. They are donating $500 to a family who recently suffered a house fire, putting them in temporary housing for several months. They are so deserving of this donation, and the team is grateful to be able to help them during this difficult time. The other $1,500 is going to a family who is dealing with a recent diagnosis of breast cancer. This family has spent countless hours helping kids in their community, so our team is glad to be able to support them in the way that this family has always supported others.

“The NBS Rudolph to the Rescue program allows all of us in the Bay City office to feel part of the community in a special way,” explained Scott Telder, Principal and Vice President of GLBR-Lansing Markets at NBS. “Each year, we choose a charitable organization or a family in need to help brighten the holiday season in our own unique way. It feels so good to not only think about our own families, but to also support other people in the community!”

Lansing TeamNBS Child and Family Charities

Our Lansing team chose to donate all $2,000 to Child and Family Charities, an organization whose mission is to strengthen and support children, families, and individuals as they evolve and grow. Providing services like child abuse prevention, child welfare, behavioral health, and juvenile justice, this organization is dedicated to improving the lives of many.

“Our team is honored to donate our Rudolph to the Rescue funds to the local Child and Family Charities this year,” said Lance Rice, Lansing General Manager at NBS. “We are humbled by their many contributions and hope that our donation helps them continue to thrive and assist those in need in our community for many years to come.”

At NBS, we are passionate about giving back and making a difference in the communities where we work, live, and serve. Rudolph to the Rescue brings our team together and reminds us what the season is truly about. On behalf of our team at NBS, we hope you are inspired to take part in the season of giving and we wish you a happy holiday!
