NBS Pet Story: Puppy Mischief
Bringing home a new puppy is filled with excitement and challenges. No matter what troubles they bring, we still love our pets. They keep us on our toes, occasionally make a mess, but they always show us love.

Often companies find themselves in a predicament where they are expanding to the point where they are out of available space. Traditionally, their options were to either move or build an addition to their existing building.
It’s a month-long celebration of the benefits that pets bring to people’s lives – and vice versa. In the spirit of National Pet Month, here are some ways you can support pets in need and do more for your own pet.
Losing a pet is losing a member of your family. Breanna Golda, one of our Troy designers, recently lost their family dog Diesel and she fondly remembers the day they brought him home almost 11 years ago.
Smart and connected work environments perform harder for organizations compared to traditional workspaces. Walls are no longer just space dividers. They can embed technology, lighting and other work tools to ramp up collaboration and leverage more vertical real estate.
After a long day at work, a pet is always there to greet you. They are our loyal companions, stress relievers and entertainers. This year we are dedicating time, resources and love to the animals in our lives and community.
Are you an educator or know someone who is? For the third year, Steelcase Education is awarding up to fifteen schools grants valued at $65,000 (grades 6 – 12, colleges and universities) to create active learning centers. Steelcase has partnered with educators to rethink today’s classrooms to make them more engaging, flexible and innovative.
Winter is in full swing and that means ice melts or “de-icers” are being deposited on roads and sidewalks. These melting compounds can wreak havoc on your carpet and other flooring in vestibules and entryways. Over time, soils can build up and get trapped.
Wow! Our team members across all five locations went above and beyond, donating and volunteering their time to the causes and organizations that speak to them. From their efforts, NBS surpassed our initial 700-hour goal with a new total of 825 hours, and that number is still growing!
Being mindful isn’t easy unless you have goals and plans set in place. Here are some daily activities I tried and could help you in setting up a mindfulness routine.
We did it! We reached our 4.0 Volunteer Challenge company goal of volunteering 700 hours in 2016! September and October were big months for us and many of our team members took part in group organized volunteer activities. In September, our Audiovisual Solutions team donated their time to the Troy Family Daze community event.

Don’t you love a neighborhood block party? It’s a time when your community can come together to connect and socialize. We have taken this concept and turned it into our own weekly gathering! Our Troy team members are actually organized into “neighborhoods” depending on the market they support.
In a professional world where “open plan”, “collaboration” and “flexible worker” are increasingly being talked about, people cannot forget the need for privacy. As many of us are becoming more mobile, in and out of meetings all day, being disrupted by a variety of things, we strive for private time to get work done.
Last week, our showroom was bustling with over 250 guests experiencing the latest in commercial furniture, floorcovering, textiles, AV and construction products. Our annual [re]ocon event brings the best of NeoCon and InfoComm to our clients and industry peers. The all-day event incorporated our 40th anniversary with Steelcase and featured throwback music, food and decor.
We are excited to share that our team is halfway to achieving our 4.0 Challenge Volunteering goal! Across all of our locations, team members are continuing to commit their time to a variety of causes including hunger, youth, housing and community outreach.
Organizations today work differently, move faster, adapt more quickly. So how can work environments keep pace? With demountable, or modular wall systems, a workplace can be more flexible. Demountable walls can be reconfigured to expand, contract or rearrange a floor plan in ways that traditional framed walls cannot match.
Last Saturday, on a cool summer morning, our team members and NBS truck were ready and waiting to collect food and donations for Gleaner’s Fill the Fridge mission. We are excited to share that our Troy food drive was a success! Thank you to everyone who donated and participated.
With summer vacation upon us, nearly 300,000 children who rely on free or reduced-fee meals from their school may be going home to an empty fridge. To support Gleaner’s fill the fridge campaign, NBS will be hosting a food drive in our Troy front parking lot on Saturday, July 16th.
All eyes were on Chicago this month for NeoCon, a creative hub for innovation and inspiration. So what’s the latest? Here’s a quick take on some trending ideas from our vendor partner Steelcase.
NeoCon 2016 was filled with color and comfort this year! Stepping into the Chicago Merchandise Mart, there was an air of fun, informal and retro flair to the showroom exhibits. Warm wood tones, copper, and succulents galore created a throwback experience.
You might think that the above photo was completely staged. You might even think that it took a lot of planning and coordination, but the truth is actually much simpler.
If you work in an office today, it might not come as a surprise that the office of the future is still some ways off. Steelcase embarked on an unprecedented global study, partnering with IPSOS, to see how space correlates with employee engagement, and how workers are really working all over the globe.
Since launching our 4.0 Volunteer Challenge two months ago, NBS team members have put in over 95 hours of volunteer time! We are at 13% of our 700-hour goal, and there are many opportunities to give back on the horizon.
