We explored all aspects of wellness in 2019 from physical and mental wellbeing, to environmental, community and financial wellbeing. Our “NBS Cares” campaign aimed to encourage us as a company and individually to better ourselves, even if it was just a small first step in the right direction.

We couldn’t be happier with the outcome of our Troy headquarters renovation for 2019. Walking through the front doors, the space takes on a whole new life – color, texture, architectural elements and a variety of work settings greet you. The expansion and renovation began earlier this year to support our growing team.

The Skillman Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on improving the lives of children in Detroit. Their work focuses on education, economy and equity for Detroit youth.

The 30-day ‘design pop-up’ in the Foundation Studio, located within The Detroit Foundation Hotel, was the perfect place to share such a narrative.

NBS is proud to share that our client, Defiance College, has been awarded a Steelcase Education Active Learning Center Grant! Defiance is among sixteen educational institutions to receive an active learning classroom this year valued at approximately $67,000 and includes design, furniture, installation and on-site training.

Design trends at NeoCon included very little workstations with “ancillary” being the new “primary.” It’s all about the collaborative spaces, lounge furniture, cross over spaces, and phone booths or quiet rooms. Color trends were sort of mixed this year.
At NeoCon this year, the biggest buzz in education was around the announcement that Steelcase was acquiring Smith System, an education focused furniture company that many have never heard of. This fills a large gap in the Steelcase Education product offerings when it comes to the K-12 market.
